Requiem Aeternam

The following Brother and Sir Knights and Ladies were called by the Lord to their eternal reward during the Fraternal Year 2005 – 2006

Brother Knight Henry Loesch was called to his eternal reward on December 8th, at the age of 81.  Henry was a 28-year member of the Knights of Columbus, joining the Order in 1977.  He served in the Navy during WWII, and was a member of the V.F.W.  Henry worked highway and heavy construction.  He is survived by wife, Hilda; sons, Vincent, Paul, Patrick, Martin, and Mathew; daughters, Virginia, Lucille, Rita, Margaret and Teresa; and 26 grandchildren.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church of St. Mary, with burial in our Catholic Cemetery.

The following Brother and Sir Knights and Ladies were called by the Lord to their eternal reward during the Fraternal Year 2003 – 2004.

Kathryn “Kay” Pauly, wife of Brother Knight Willard “Dutch” Pauly passed away on April 12, 2004, at the age of 90.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at ST. Hubert’s in Chanhassen, with burial in the parish cemetery.

Elaine Jacques died on February 9th, at the age of 87.  She was the widow of Brother Knight Jerome Jacques.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s, with burial in our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Edmund and his wife Helen Menden died on January 18th, at the ages of 69 and 66.  Edmund joined the Order in 1952 and was a 51-year member.  He was in insurance sales.  They are survived by their sone, Michael and Paul; daughters, Lisa Smith and Mary Thielen; 5 grandchildren; his mother Mary; and sisters, Rita Lannon and Esther Hennes.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary’s, with burial in our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Leo Thomas passed away on January 10th, at the age of 92.  He was a member of the Order for over 50 years, and was an Honorary Life member.  Leo was the manager of Pauly’s Liquors.  He is survived by daughters; Shirley Kelly, Kathleen Lindell, JoAnn Coller, Patricia Hilton, and Barbara Menden; 22 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church of St. Mary, with burial in our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Daniel Ballinger died on December 10th, at the age of 86.  Dan was a member of our Council for 51 years.  He was a Navy veteran, and served in the Pacific.  Dan owned the Oak Grove Dairy for many years.  He is survived by his wife, Gwen; daughter Linda; and 2 grandchildren.

Brother Joe Zak passed away on December 4th, at the age of 61.  He was a member of the Order for 16 years.  Joe was self-employed.  He was an Air Force veteran, and a former city councilman.  Joe is survived by his wife, Dee; sons, Tim, Jon and Geoffrey, and two grandsons.  Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church of St. Mary, with burial in Pennsylvania.

Auxiliary member Regina (Jean) Sable died on November 29th, at the age of 80.  She served in the Army Air Forces during WWII, and was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.  Jean and her husband Floyd, owned Hidden Valley Ranch in Eden Prairie prior to his death.  She is survived by sons, Floyd, John, Glenn, Robert, and Fred; daughters Nancy Downey, Paula Reese, Judy Sorenson and JoAnn Brady; and many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary’s, with burial at the Eden Prairie Cemetery.

Brother Knight Alvin Schmitz died on November 22nd, at the age of 86.  Alvin joined the Order in 1959, and was a 44 year Honorary Life member.  He transferred from the Hopkins Council in 1995.  He worked at ADC before his retirement.  He is survived by his wife, Virginia; sons, Kenneth and Michael; daughters Helen Schoenbauer, Laura Conright and Joanne Cornelius; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church of St. Mark, with burial at our Catholic Cemetery.

Stella Jacobs, wife of Brother Knight Clarence Jacobs, passed away on November 7, 2003 at the age of 86.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church of St. Mary, with burial at our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Richard (Ditch) Boys passed away on November 1, 2003 at the age of 72.  He joined the Order in 1958, and was a 45 year Honorary Life member.  Ditch transferred into our Council from St. Peter in 1962.  He was employed by Minnegasco.  Ditch was an Army veteran, and a member of the American Legion.  Ditch is survived by wife, Colleen; sons, Tony, Tim, Ted and Tom; daughters, Tammy Florez and Kelly Anderson; and 19 grandchildren.  Memorial Mass was held at Pax Christi in Eden Prairie.

We recently learned of the death of Brother Knight Gerald Hirscher.  He was buried in Coeur D’Alene, Idaho.

Marie Ruehle, wife of Brother Knight Ruben Ruehle, died on October 18, 2003 at the age of 67. Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church of St. Mary, with burial at our Catholic Cemetery.

The following Brother and Sir Knights and Ladies were called by the Lord to their eternal reward during the Fraternal Year 2002 – 2003.

Brother Knight John P. Ryan passed away on September 17, 2003 at the age of 83.  He was a 51 year Honorary Life member of our Council.  John was a retired plant superintendent for Cargill in Savage.  He is survived by wife, Dorothy; sons, Gerald McLaughlin, Patruck, Roland, James, John, and Gerald Ryan; daughters, Dorothy Weinzirl, Mary Dixon, and Cheryl Ryan; 25 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren.  He was an outstanding gentleman, and will be missed.  Funeral services were held at St. Mark’s with burial in our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Robert Michels died on August 7th, at the age of 70.  He was a 35 year Honorary Life member of our Council, a Korean War Veteran, Legion member, and a 35 year member of St. Mary’s Church Choir.  Bob owned Michel’s Accounting and Tax Service.  He will be dearly missed by his wife Bette, sons; Dan, Jon and Tony; daughters, Cindy Engebritson, Mari Thomas, and Katie Geske, 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.  Funeral Services were held at St. Mary’s, with burial in our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Harold Fox passed away on April 30th, at the age of 76.  He joined our Council in 1949, and was a 54 year Honorary Life member.  Harold was also a member of the Shakopee Fire Dept., and V.F.W., and was a WWII veteran.  He was owner of the Fox and Weiler Company.  Harold is survived by his wife, Marcie; sons, John, Robert, Richard, James and Thomas; daughter, Cheryl Crosby; 17 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary’s, with interment at our Catholic Cemetery.

Bertha Menden, widow of Brother Knight Alois Menden, passed away on April 17th, at the age of 96.  She is survived by daughters, Pat Spies, Shirley Coleman, and Phyllis Rechtzigel; 9 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s, with burial at our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Gary Engel passed away on April 8th, at the age of 60.  He transferred into our Council from Litchfield Council #2027 in November of 2002.  Gary was a retired Pressman and Production Manager for the Minneapolis Star Tribune.  He is survived by brother, George; and brother-in-law, Stan Kocon.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s, with burial at our Catholic Cemetery, with military honors.

Delores Lebens, widow of Brother Knight Melvin Lebens, died on April 6th, at the age of 85. Funeral services were held at Pax Christi in Eden Prairie, with burial in our local Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Ralph Thomas passed away on November 27th, at the age of 74. He was a 56 Honorary Life member. Ralph served is the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Foresters. Ralph was self-employed as a masonry contractor. He is survived by wife, Barb; sons, Steve, Mark and Bruce; daughter, Patty Egan; and eleven grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s, with burial in the Shakopee Catholic Cemetery.

Sir Knight Thomas Philipp died on November 21st, at the age of 64. He was a 46 year member of the Order. Tom was a former owner of Philipp Funeral Home. He was very gifted musically, a member of St. Mark’s Choir, Minnetonka Clippers Barbershop Chorus, and the MN Valley Community Band. Tom is survived by his wife, Kathy; daughters Peggy and Betsy; and three grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s, with burial in our Catholic Cemetery.

Magdalen Geis, widow of Brother Knight Norbert Geis, died on November 19th, at the age of 85. Funeral services were held at St. Mark’s, with burial in our local Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight George Stark passed away on October 13th, at the age of 88. He joined the Order in 1936, and was a 66 year Honorary Life Member. George was self-employed as a farmer. He is survived by sone, Leo, Paul and Joe; Daughters, Ann Dragsten and Karen Martinez; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s, with burial in our local Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Robert Sweeney died on October 4th, at the age of 72. He was a 47 year Honorary Life Member of our Council. Bob was a member of the City Council, and a veteran of the Korean War. He was a teacher and administrator in the Minneapolis School System. After retirement, he devoted his time to his accounting and income tax preparation business. He is survived by his wife, Kris; sons, Shawn, Peter, Tim, Patrick and Walt; Daughters, Dr. Kristin, Tara Christopherson, and Moira; and 13 grandchildren, Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary’s, with burial at our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Clarence ( Ted ) Schmitt passed away on August 17th, at the age of 88. He was a 60 year Honorary Life member of the Order. He was a retired Ford employee, and he served in the Navy during W.W.II. Ted was a life member of the Legion and the VFW, active at St. Mary’s Church, Boy Scouts, and Fire Department. He was faithful in attendance at wakes and funerals of our members. Ted is survived by wife, Rose; sons Robert and Michael; daughters Patricia Mische and Judith Kidder; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 10 step-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary’s, with burial at our Catholic Cemetery, with Military rites provided by the Shakopee Veterans Memorial Unit, of which he was a member.

Marie Menke passed away on June 25th, at the age of 92. Marie was the widow of Brother Knight Joe Menke, mother of Brother Knight Mike Menke, and the sister of Brother Knight Ed Hennen. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s, with burial at our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight James Lodermeier passed away on June 6th, at the age of 74. He was a 55 year Honorary Life member of the Order. Jim joined St. Cloud Council #961 in 1947, and transferred to the Shakopee Knights of Columbus in 1956. He was a Past Grand Knight, and a Past Financial Secretary. Jim was involved with the Knights of Columbus Student Loan Fund at the State and Local levels. Jim was also active with the Red Cross Bloodmobile. He served in the US Army in W.W.II. He was employed at Burshek Hardware, and St. Francis Hospital. He will be missed. Jim is survived by wife, Donna; daughters, Ann Johnson, Mickie Hanson, Jeanne Kibler, Colleen Gunderman, and Mary Sima; 16 grand children; sister, Henrietia Kemski; and Brother Al. Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church of St. Mark, with burial in the Catholic Cemetery.

Lucille Odenwald, widow on Brother Knight T.J. “Lefty” Odenwald, passed away on April 19th, at the age of 89. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, with burial at our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Melvin Faust died on May 5th, at the age of 90. He joined the Order in 1947, and was a 55 year Honorary Life Member. Melvin was a dairy farmer, and enjoyed woodworking. He is survived by daughters; Mary Berry and Janice Norrell; six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s, with burial at our Catholic Cemetery.

Dorothy Raines, widow of Brother Knight Denzil Raines, passed away on February 2, at the age of 77. Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church of St. Mary, with burial in the local Catholic Cemetery.

Bridget Mosser, wife of Brother Knight Ed Mosser, died on January 13, at the age of 67. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s, with burial in our Catholic Cemetery.

Sir Knight Dr. Paul Nevin died on January 10th, at the age of 93. He was a member of the Order over 75 years, transferring into our Council from the Belle Plaine Council. Doc was a dentist for 43 years. He was also a member of the Rotary, hospital board, and was on the school board. He is survived by daughters, Pat Pass, Sally Raasch and Sue Weibel; sons Mike and Bill; 16 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s, with burial in the Shakopee Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Art Deutsch died on January 2nd, at the age of 94. He joined the Jordan Council in 1954, and transferred into our Council in 1992. Art was an Honorary Life member. He was a retired farmer. He is survived by daughters, Darlene Menke and Joyce Johannes; son, Allen, 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s, with burial in our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Sylvester Gehlen passed away on December 27th, at the age of 83. He was reactivated into our Council from the Glencoe Council in 1981. He worked as an inspector for Thermo King. He is survived by wife, Margaret LeMay-Gehlen; son, Steven; daughter, Mary Bongard, 5 grandchildren, and one great-grand daughter. Mass was held at St. Mary’s, with burial in our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Walter Petricka died on December 9th at the age of 68. He was a 50 year honorary member of our Council, joining the order in 1951. Wally owned Petricka Auction Service and belonged to the American legion. He was an active member of the Council, serving a term on the home Association. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine, sons: David and Darin, and 3 grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s, with burial in our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Harold Pink died on December 2nd in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 84. He joined the Order in 1959 and was a honorary life member. Harold was a retired Army serviceman. He was also a lifetime member of the D.A.V., VFW, and the American Legion. He is survived by wife Esther (Marschall), sons: Christopher, Michael, George, and Timothy, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Monica’s in Converse, Texas, with burial at the Ft. Sam Huston National Cemetery.

Frances Faust, wife of Brother Knight Melvin Faust, passed away on November 12th, at the age of 87. They were married for 65 years on September 1, 2001. Frances will be remembered as a cook at our Knights of Columbus Hall. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Marks, with burial in our Catholic Cemetery. May she rest in Peace.

Audrey Pistulka, wife of Brother Knight Dr. Rolland Pistulka, passed away on October 4th, at the age of 66. She is survived by her husband, sons, Louis and David; daughters, Mary, Karla Rokke, Sister Elizabeth, and Catherine Coen; and twelve grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s Church, with burial in our Catholic cemetery.

Jodi Peters, wife of Brother Knight Leon Peters, died on September 8th at the age of 41. She is survived by her husband, Leon; daughter, Danielle; her parents, two sisters and three brothers. A memorial service was held at Washburn McReavy Eden Prairie Chapel.

Sir Knight Theodore Jasper died on September 7th, at the age of 78. He was a 60 year Honorary Life Member, and a Past Grand Knight of our Council. Ted was a charter member and Past Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree. He was a builder, past City Council member, former board member of St. Francis Hospital, and an active member of the Rotary. Ted was one of the original developers of our Knights of Columbus Hall, and was a great asset to our Council. He is survived by wife, Rose; daughters, Joyce Basham and Linda Klemp; sons, Paul and John Woytasek; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s, with burial in our Catholic cemetery.

Father John Gilbert was called to his eternal reward on August 2nd, at the age of 70. He was Pastor of the Church of St. Mary of the Purification from 1987 to 1999, and continued to serve there since his retirement in 1999. From 1969 to 1973, Father Jack served as archdiocesan school superintendent and education bureau director. He joined the Order in 1958, and transferred into our Council in 1991 from Bloomington Marion Council #3827. Father Jack was our Council Chaplain from 1991 to 1993. Father Gilbert was deeply loved and appreciated, not only by the members of his Parish, but also by members of the entire Shakopee Catholic Community. He is survived by brothers, Wayne and Bill. Mass of Christian Burial was held in Marystown, with 4 Bishops and over 100 Priests in attendance, with interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Marystown.

Ida Plouman, widow of Brother Knight Charles Ploumen, died on July 8th at the age of 89. Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church of St. Mark in Shakopee, with burial at the Catholic Cemetery.

Esther Marrinan, widow of Brother Knight John Marrinan, died on June 24 at the age of 90. Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church of St. Mary in Shakopee, with burial at our Catholic Cemetery.

LaVerne Kotsmith, widow of Brother Knight James Kotsmith passed away on June 23 at the age of 83. Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Church of St. Mark in Shakopee, with burial at the Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Julius (Nick) Schneider passed away on March 17th at the age of 91. He joined the Order in 1953 and was a 53 year Honorary Life Member. Nick was a retired employee of the State of Minnesota. He is survived by sons, LeRoy, Bob and Ray; daughters, Rosie Palma and Ruth Delbow; 23 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and brother Butch. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary’s with burial in the Credit River Cemetery.

Viola Deutsch, wife of Brother Knight Art Deutsch, died on March 16th at the age of 87. She is survived by husband, Art; daughters, Darlene Menke and Joyce Johannes; son, Allen; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church with burial at our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Wilmar Radermacher died on March 8th, at the age of 88. He originally joined the Order in 1946, and re-entered in 1987. He was a retired salesman, and was a member of St. Mark’s Mens Club and the A. A.Survivors. He is survived by wife of 63 years, marguerite; sons, Richard and John; daughters Kathy and Carol; 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, brother Roman, Myron and Roger; and sisters Agnes, Harriet, Ruth, Evie and Marie. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church.

Deacon William F. Beckfeld died on February 27th, at the age of 67. He joined the Order in 1990, and transferred into our Council in 2000.  He was serving as a Deacon at St. Mark’s in Shakopee, and prior to that, he was at St. Bartholomew’s in Wayzata.  During the short time he was at St. Mark’s, he earned the love and respect of the parishioners, and he will be missed. He is survived by wife, Mary; sons, Tom, Bill, Paul, and Joseph; daughters, Beth Hassel, Amy Brynteson, and Jody Smith; and 13 grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Bartholomew’s in Wayzata, with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Jordan.

Sir Knight Leo (Peg) Hoen passed on February 17th at the age of 89. Peg was the sixth oldest member of our Council. He joined the Order in 1952, was a 49 year Life Member, and a member of the 4th Degree for 25 years. He also served in the Army in WWII. Peg is survived by wife Aurelia, sons, Steve and Michael; daughters, Gini Wermerskirchen and Mary Jo Menden; 8 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark Catholic Church, with burial with at our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Vincent Marschall died on February 10th at the age of 86. He joined the Order in May of 1937, and was a 64 year Life Member. Vince was a Past Grand Knight, KC Hall Manager, served on the City Council, and ran a bus service for the Shakopee Public Schools. He is survived by sons, John, Alan, Tom, Ken, Pete and Mark; daughters, Lois Wendt, Gail Aubrecht, Sharon St. Clair, Sheila Olson, Althea Bardon and Mary Lenzmeier; 23 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark Catholic Church, with burial at the Catholic Cemetery.

Laura Wermerskirchen, widow of Brother Knight Joseph Wermerskirchen died on January 12th, at the age of 93. She is survived by sons, Jim, Greg and Ed; daughters,Carol Majerus, Kathleen Tembrock and Monica Schultzetenberg; 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark Catholic Church, with burial at the Catholic Cemetery.

Sir Knight Donald Sebald passed on January 5, 2001 at the age of 78. He was born in New Ulm, and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Don worked for Ma Bell for 37 years. He joined the Order in 1957 and was a 43 year Honorary Life Member. He was a member of the 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and VFW. Don organized the “Dixie Cats”, and was a member of the Minnesota Over Sixty Band. He is survived by sons, David, Greg and Mark, and daughter Lisa Werner. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary Catholic Church, with burial at Fort Snelling. Don was a credit to our Country, Church and the Order. He touched many people, and will be missed.

Sir Knight J. (Hap) Mankowski passed on November 30th at the age of 80. He joined the Order in 1947, and was a 53 year Honorary Life Member. Hap served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a Past Grand Knight of our Council, and a Past Faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree Assembly. Hap and his wife Ellie were cooks for our hall for 20 years. He was a valued member of our Council, and will be greatly missed by our members. Hap is survived by wife, Ellie; sons, Gary and Jeff; and daughter Gail Fessler. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary Catholic Church, with burial with full military rites in our Catholic Cemetery.

Brother Knight Jeffery Menden died on November 14th at the age of 33. He joined the Order and our Council in 1987. Jeff was an officer with the Mendota Heights Police Department. He is survived by wife, Debbie; children, Rachel, Leah, Alex and Adam; parents, Lee & Tuddy Menden; 2 sisters, Jeanie Wanek and Diane Mareck; and father and mother-in-law, Dave & Marie Czaja. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savage, with burial in Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights.

Laura Campbell, wife of Brother Knight Tom Campbell, passed away on October 28th, at the age 39. Laura worked at K Mart Distribution Center. She is survived by her husband, Tom; daughters, Kimberly, Heather and Jamie; mother, Magdalene Clemens; brothers, Rod and Chris; sisters, Sandy Bartusek and Debbie Noiske. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Marystown.
